California Safe Drinking Water & Toxic Enforcement Act

- The act prohibits any business practices that result in contaminating a drinking water source with any substance that is known to cause cancer or birth defects. This prohibition applies to any body of water or area of land where chemicals will likely find their way into drinking water.
- The act also bans any business practices that consciously expose any individuals to cancer or birth defect causing substances without first warning those individuals.
- Violation of these laws can result in a fine of up to $2,500 for each day the violation takes place. Half of all fines taken for this offense will be placed in the Hazardous Substance Account in the General Fund.
