The Youth Cruelty

The story "A Property of the Clan" describes the awful death of the young girl during the alcohol party and tells how her friends deal with this situation.

"The Property of the Clan" is not an entertainment work and not a simple play for holiday reading. It is very hard story with complicated plot. It describes a terrible and dreadful subject, but does it in the interesting and sensitive manner. The main idea of the play is the horror of violence as an awful experience in the woman's life. The plotline of the work is about the youth violence. The behavior, actions and language after the alcohol assumption are very cruel and insulting. "A property of the Clan" touches upon all the subjects of the youth lifestyle in Australia, such as youth subculture, youth insubordination, youth minimalism and nihilism, youth sexuality and entertainment.

Besides, " The Property of the Clan" is focused on the theme of sincere friendship and on the situations, when close people can betray each other. The huge attention is also payed on the problem of youth insubordination, when the teenagers resist to the opinion of the parents. The theme of the underage drinking in Australia is also very urgent.

"A Property of the Clan" is oriented on the audience about 17 years and older, because younger children would hardly understand the main idea. For parents this work is also very useful, because they can better realize the values and interests of the children and see their environment and the surrounding culture.

The play is about the company of teenagers with the leader, an aggressive boy Ricko. The interesting fact is that all the teenagers in the group understands, that Ricko is cruel and bad person, but they still take down his dictations. By the end of the play the character of Ricko changes a lot, because he realizes, that he had killed a girl. This change expresses the tragedy of the play.
