Health & Medical Lose Weight

Why Diets Don"t Work

If you are one of the nearly 160 million American's who are overweight, you have probably been searching for that one diet plan that will help you shed the extra pounds.
Day after day, client after client, I hear of the desire to lose weight, and nearly everyone one tells me about the diets they have tried.
Sadly, nearly everyone tells me how the diet worked at first, and then the weight came back.
Has this happened to you? If you answered yes to having had success at first with a diet, only to end up gaining the weight back, you're not alone.
Almost every person who has tried "dieting" to lose weight, gains the weight back.
If you are overweight, most likely you also have some other health issue.
High cholesterol, high triglycerides, high blood sugar, cancer, coronary vascular disease, coronary heart disease and a host of other health problems associated with obesity.
In all of the years, I have been helping people lose weight, and tackle chronic health problems, I have yet to find a "silver bullet" that address weight loss and the associated health problems.
You will hear about the latest drug that will help you lose weight, and you may have even tried them yourself.
But there is ALWAYS a side effect.
ALWAYS.
All drugs have side effects.
You should rule out drugs as part of your plan to lose weight.
Not much good news in what I have said so far.
There is hope.
In fact, there is a lot more than just hope.
The best way to lose weight and keep it off, is to adapt a healthy lifestyle.
In fact, all major health agencies such as Centers for Disease Control, World Health Organization, American Heart Association, American Cancer Association, American Diabetes Association, and many others have said emphatically the absolute best way to lose weight and address chronic health problems is through lifestyle adaptations.
What are lifestyle adaptations? Simply said, lifestyle adaptations are a "way of life".
What I tell my clients, is this.
If you want a healthy life, do these three things.
1) Eat a healthy diet 2) Get 30 minutes of exercise each day 3) Have a positive mental attitude.
Incorporate these simple three things into your daily routine and you will change your life.
Let me quickly give you some ideas for each of the three things I believe you should do everyday to lose weight and get healthy.
Eat a healthy diet- Incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet.
Fruits and vegetables have fiber, and fiber is critical to good gut health, which is required for good health overall.
I have written a 35-page report about this very topic, and if you send me an e-mail (listed below) I will he happy to send you a free copy.
Eat one salad per day if you can.
Fill it with lettuce, cucumbers, olives, celery, carrots, broccoli, tomatoes or any of your favorite vegetables.
Not only are salads a great way to get your vegetable servings, salads are full of water.
High water content foods really help in the fight against fat.
Where most people mess up is the addition of too much dressing.
Keep in mind a tablespoon of dressing can have more than 150 calories.
Go easy on the dressing to help save calories.
If you plan to eat meat, consume chicken (organic of free range if it is available), fish (especially wild caught fish from the deep, like salmon, halibut, and snapper, and turkey.
If you want to try, alternative meats look into buffalo, ostrich and other game.
These meats are excellent choice as they are often lower in calories, and saturated fat.
Increase your consumption of whole grains.
Whole grains are available in so many food products it is easy to increase your daily intake.
Read the package labels to see if they have whole grains.
Drink plenty of good clean water.
Most people overlook this simple, yet powerful element of any good weight loss plan.
Water is required for so many biological processes in the human body and by not getting enough; you actually shortchange your health.
You don't need to spend a fortune on a special filter either.
Purchase one of the many simply water purifiers that you can pour into a filtering pitcher or attach to your water faucet, and you're good to go.
Get a little bit of exercise everyday.
Notice that I said a little bit of exercise.
No need to train for the Iron Man to be healthy.
Depending on your level of conditioning, simply taking a 30-minute walk everyday can change your health.
One of the reasons many people fail to get started on an exercise program is they think they need to make a huge commitment, and this becomes an excuse.
We are built to walk, so walk.
Find 30 minutes in your day and dedicate that time to yourself.
If you walk 30 minutes each day, and did no other lifestyle changes, you could lose as much as 10 pounds of body fat in a year.
Walk the dog, use your lunchtime, go after dinner, before bed, before work.
Any time is a good time to grab a nice walk.
You will feel great and be glad you made the effort.
Have a positive mental attitude.
This is especially important during these trying economic times.
Remind yourself that happiness starts with your attitude, and the way you look at life.
If you are down on yourself, chances are you are down on a many other aspects of your life too.
I am fond of reading books about motivation, self-help and spirituality.
If you are having a hard time thinking good thoughts about yourself, your life and your future, you can always go to the library or bookstore and find a book to help get you started.
One of the greatest opportunities in helping others is to help guide them to a more positive place in their thinking about themselves.
There is no shortage of negativity that's for sure, so look for places where you can be with other positive people.
Whether a place of worship, a social outlet like your child's school, community food banks or whatever the cause, if you have an interest in something, chances are there is a group for you to get involved with.
Having a purpose in life helps give our lives meaning, and in the process improves our outlook as well as the way we feel about ourselves.
A health and happy life can be yours with a few simple changes to your lifestyle.
Remember the three steps for a good life are 1) Eat a good diet 2) Get a little exercise everyday 3) Have a positive mental attitude.
