How to Troubleshoot an Onan 2800 Generator Carburetor

    • 1). Ensure that you are using the correct fuel, as recommended by Onan Cummins. The generator runs on standard gasoline as its fueling source and anything other than this may not be properly processed by the carburetor.

    • 2). Empty the fuel and replace it with fresh fuel if you fear it has become stale and is clogging the mechanism. This will be indicated by the carburetor becoming sticky within the passageways. Fuel should also be emptied before a period of inactivity for the generator to stop it from going stale and causing problems when you try and use the unit in the future.

    • 3). Troubleshoot debris blockages within the carburetor by replacing the filter. This will ensure the smooth running of the carburetor and fix incidences of black smoke emanating from the unit, which can occur due to clogged filters.

    • 4). Heat the incoming carburetor air by turning the generator's outside weather lever to "winter" in order to eradicate the danger of ice forming within the assembly on humid days. This can often be responsible for the carburetor running more roughly than usual.
