How to Find Your State Congressman
- 1). Check your area phone book to find your state congressmen. All area phone books have special sections for government names, addresses and phone numbers so you can quickly find your Congress members' local and government offices. Be ready to talk with the office staff there. Prepare a short presentation with your major points to clearly share your ideas.
- 2). Find your congressmen or -women with online sites. Some sites, such as Contacting the Congress, offer a map of the United States. Click on your state for a listing of your representatives and senators. Click the Congress member's name for additional contact information. Congress also has two websites. On the House of Representatives site, enter your zip code or address. On the Senate sites, simply click your state to find your senators.
- 3). Become involved in local, state and federal political organizations. These groups sponsor events attended by your state congressmen and -women. Take advantage of these opportunities to meet your representatives personally and share your ideas. Remember that time is at a premium during these crowded meetings. Practice what you want to say so you can effectively deliver your message.
