How to Stop Being So Emotional Over a Break Up

    • 1). Talk to a trusted friend or family member. Keeping your thoughts and hurt to yourself will only build up into an anger outburst later. Talking it out will prevent bottled up emotions from exploding forth in irresponsible actions such as fights, throwing items or promiscuity.

    • 2). Cry when the need arises. Letting out your tears will help alleviate the pressure you feel. Express your feelings through tears rather than screaming.

    • 3). Write poetry or draw pictures to help express the feelings you are going through. A creative outlet will serve you well through every stage of grief you will encounter. Place your creative works in a folder once completed for you to reference later and see how far you have come.

    • 4). Affirm your good qualities while looking in the mirror. According to Kids Health, many people blame themselves for the breakup over looks, attitude or other self esteem factors. Speak to your reflection, repeating your endearing qualities such as kindness, good looks or bright smile. You may find you will feel that your ex is the one on the losing end and not you.

    • 5). Rest your body, mind and spirit. Don't overwork yourself to try and forget your problems. This can have serious implications on your overall health. Meditate, nap or go to the spa to rejuvenate. For the first few days you will be emotionally drained, so take care of yourself.
