How to Write Sonnet Poems Fast
- 1). Devise a strong central idea. The most important part of any sonnet is the theme. There must be a conflict of your choice in the first stanzas and a resolution in the closing ones. Consider using imagery in your sonnets, as well as metaphors and similes. After you become familiar with these points, you are ready to start writing.
- 2). Turn your theme into a song. "Sonnet" translates as "little song" and, therefore, is expected to flow like a song. The most important thing to consider before writing a sonnet, especially if you want to do it fast, is the structure. You can compose a proper sonnet by using what is known as an "iambic pentameter" --- meaning every line should consist of five iambic feet. For example, a sentence's structure should be da-DUM/da-DUMa/da-DUM/da-DUM/da-DUM. A poem that deviates in its meter does not flow smoothly.
- 3). Make it rhyme. When you are writing a sonnet, consider the rhyme scheme. There are a few options. 1) You can go for the Italian style, which consists of an octet (eight lines) and a sestet (six lines). The octet presents the conflict and the sestet presents the resolution. The rhyme scheme is commonly 'a-b-b-a-a-b-b-a/c-d-e-c-d-e'. 2) You can opt for the English sonnet style. This style consists of the conflict in three quatrains (four lines) and the resolution in one couplet at the end. The rhyme scheme in this style is a-b-a-b/c-d-c-d/e-f-e-f/g-g.
