Distribution of 'pressure' in corporate....a HR message
Many corporate and their respective HR functions may be following the physics of ‘uneven distribution of pressure' at different regions of earth, unknowingly. In most corporate, the work pressure, the frequent interventions, reprimand and reprieve etc., will be more for people working at the lowermost ladder of hierarchy. The people at manager cadre and below are the worst suffers of ‘many and multiple bosses' to harass and question them. Whereas the people at the level of CEO's and Presidents would engage in playing cards and gossip, suffers the least tension and corporate pressure.
Why such paradox exists in most corporate? The pressure at the earth's surface is very high. When we go upward or go to higher altitude, the atmospheric pressure is least and become lesser and lesser if go higher and higher. Quite contrary to that if we go deep inside the water towards the bottom, the pressure increases. This is due to the weight of water above ones head and also due to the surrounding atmospheric pressure.
When we goes up in the sky the atmospheric pressure decreases and hence the pressure is less. The CEO's, Presidents, Directors etc., experience least pressure in some corporate because they do not have many or multiple bosses to report. Whereas the people working at the lower levels in corporate have to answer many and multiple bosses. If not all, most can question them, assign work, interfere and interrogate them as well. Hence the people at the lower cadre in some corporate suffer pressure from all corners. It is like how the pressure increases if we go deeper inside water due to the weight of the water and atmospheric pressure around us.
Mostly the corporate that are governed directly by the ‘single entrepreneur' are the one suffers the worst. In such corporate, the CEO's and Directors used to have free run due to their close proximity with the owner of the corporate. Further most of such people are also good sycophants of their ultimate boss. Such possibility is not there to people below the cadre and hence they suffer lot of pressure.
It is the common practice that most bosses when are pressured, transfer and transmit the same to their immediate subordinates and from the immediate subordinates, it goes to the next level. Finally everything would end up with people at the lowest cadre. Interestingly, the people above usually gang up together mostly to cover up their mistakes and inefficiencies. Conveniently they put the pressure on people at the lowest level so that they can be blamed for the failure.
The HR function must check carefully whether the ‘physics of distribution of pressure' ever exist in their corporate and if so, do the necessary corrective measures.
