How to Create My Family Tree the Free and Easy Way

    Use E-mail

    • 1). E-mail family members that you are already in contact with online. Ask those family members to help you with the family tree by e-mailing you all of the names of family members, past and present, that they can recall. Be sure to ask them to include the estimated years in which these people lived.

    • 2). Make a chart, either with pen and pencil, or on your computer to diagram mothers, fathers and their children, including the years that they lived and/or died.

    • 3). Add new names and dates to your chart each time you hear back from a family member.

    • 4). Contact people in your family that you don't know by e-mailing them as you gather new names. Then include the information that they provide on your family tree.

    Website or Web page

    • 1). Using a free website, or web page, establish an online location where members of your family can go to add names, dates and pictures to your family tree. Keep in mind that there are also some websites on the Internet that offer to be a hub for you and your family members to exchange family tree/genealogy information. Some of these sites are free, while others charge a fee.

    • 2). Send out invitations to the family members you already know through e-mail and invite them to log in to your website, or page to add their information.

    • 3). Expand the experience by adding a blog to your site, or page so that family members can communicate about the family tree.
