Blue Moon Eclipse December 2009
December 31st of 2009 closes out the year with a Blue Moon.
A Blue Moon is the second Full Moon in a given month.
And this one occurs at 11:13am Pacific Standard Time, and includes a partial eclipse.
(Not visible in the US).
An interesting way to say goodbye to another year of joy, abundance, challenge, and growth.
This chart is filled with challenge.
And while that may seem alarming at first, if we take a higher perspective, we know that the fastest growth we experience comes during a time of challenge.
When we embrace our challenges we are in a much better position to deal with them, than when we try to ride the storm in a state of resistance.
The Moon, at home in Cancer, wants to be cozy and well-fed, yet can have the fierceness of a mother seeking food and protection for her children.
The Sun in Capricorn strives for structure and the attainment of goals, particularly in the outer world.
In many ways it is the Mother and the Father.
I find it interesting that Venus and Pluto are in close proximity to the Sun.
Pluto calls for, and perhaps defines, transformation.
We think of beauty, love and femininity with Venus, and from a higher perspective this planet is also about that which we value.
The Sun in Capricorn, striving for structure and success may need to redefine the meaning of success, and strive for the highest of our values.
and in that process, achieve a greater goal of transformation.
A Full Moon means that the Sun (and, in this case, Venus and Pluto as well) are opposing - facing - the Moon.
It is like looking into a mirror.
What will you see? Do you like what you see? In this case, the will of the sun, plus the values and transformation of Venus and Pluto must face the proud and protective mother, the Moon, that embodies habit, dreams, intuition, and emotion.
It is a time to question.
What has worked? What has not worked? How do we find common ground between our will/ambitions, and our emotions and need to nurture and nourish? Is it our will to conquer or pillage or to attain greater grace and consciousness? Does our sense of nurturing involve stuffing ourselves with junk food or do we support our body with fresh seasonal organic choices? I see this Full Moon cycle reflected in the struggle between big corporate farms and the local organic producer.
It is again seen when the politician influenced by the lobbyist faces their constituents.
It is our personal ambition for a career looking at our family and homelife.
Where is the balance? What is right - as opposed to convenient, self-serving, or driven by how others will view us? As if the Sun and Moon opposition is not stress enough, they are in a T-square with Saturn, which is the ruler of Capricorn (where the Sun is at this time).
Saturn is structure and restriction, the rules and regulations, and tradition.
It is finds itself in Libra during this Blue Moon Eclipse pattern.
I can only hope that with the softening influence of Libra (which is ruled by Venus, coincidentally), the focus is on looking for balance, a way for issues to be resolved in peace and harmony with true justice in the mix.
Unfortunately, Libra sometimes brings manipulation and in the attempt to please everyone, true justice is set aside in the hopes of being viewed as "nice".
But honestly, I don't believe that finding balance will be the case.
My sense of this configuration is that the limitations of the present structure, the fault lines in the foundation, will simply become more readily noticeable.
The tightening influences of Saturn will give us a chance to notice that there are things not being taken care of properly.
And while we can continue to buck up under the weight of things going in the wrong direction, it is time to become aware.
Not necessarily a time to make the needed changes, but to educate and be in full noticing of the burden and the cracks forming.
Don't worry, change is coming.
We can't stop it from happening, but we can certainly influence what direction it will take.
And if we want to influence it in a way that will be ultimately beneficial, it will take clear vision and foresight.
In this chart, the only easy aspect between planets is Mercury (thought processes and communication) in sextile (easy flow) with Uranus (sudden change, disrupting the structure, and what I call the earthquakes of life).
When there is a lot of pressure, energy (or even toothpaste, right?) will take the path of least resistance.
So, for those of you who are most affected by this Full Moon chart, the path of least resistance will be to use clear and structured, grounded and productive thought processes (Mercury is also in Capricorn) and allow the changes (Uranus) to emerge in organic flow (Pisces) and with compassion and the wisdom of the higher spirit.
The danger here is that Pisces also rules the illusion/delusion factors, the veils and escape methods that we use to avoid challenge.
So, if you want to take the higher spiritual path through this configuration, it will require adhering to the higher dimensions of Pisces.
The moment of the Full Moon will be short-lived.
Just minutes and it moves on.
For that duration, if you would like to engage in a meditative exercise, you could take a moment out of your busy day and meditate on the following questions: If the veil of illusion/delusion were lifted, if I looked straight at reality without any of my usual filters or fears, what truth would be revealed about...
my relationships, my career, my spiritual practice, my political stance, the state of my health, the state of my country, my finances, the healthcare policy, global warming, my feelings and emotions..
..
and so forth.
An honest assessment, that's all - the good and the bad.
Just lift the veil and look.
Oh yes, Capricorn is also about responsibility.
So the Sun, in its formation with the Moon and Saturn, reminds us that each of us is responsible for our piece of the world, including the direction that will be taken when "things" change.
We vote everyday for the direction of that change - in elections, in how we spend our money, time, and energy.
If the old structure hasn't worked for you - in your personal life or in the world at large - make your vote count...
every word, every dollar, every breath, every day.
And...
Happy New Year!
