What Is a Good Objective for an Entry Level Resume?
- Place your career objective at the top of your resume, directly under your name and contact information.
- Write a succinct objective that occupies no more than two lines of your typed resume. A popular format is "OBJECTIVE: To _____ " followed by your specific professional goals.
- Describe the type of position you seek, highlighting one or two of the qualities that make you an outstanding candidate for the job. For example, if your objective is to obtain an entry-level editorial position at a magazine, you might highlight your passion for writing, as well as your experience as editor of your college newspaper.
- Tailor your career objective for each potential employer, just as you customize the body of your resume. For example, if you're applying for teaching positions, create specific individual objectives for public and private educational institutions.
- If you find yourself unable to summarize your goals and qualifications in a strong and concise statement, don't feel that you have to fill the space. Avoid trendy buzzwords and cliches, and don't specify that you're seeking an entry-level job. You may be entering the workforce for the first time, but your talent and experience could merit a higher salary or more responsibilities.
