How to Honor a Friend on the 1st Anniversary of Their Death
- 1). Visit the grave site of the friend who has passed. Though the friend was buried just a short year ago, visiting the grave is significant for the living. If you are religious, pray. Otherwise, stand at the grave and remember your friend. If it is helpful, talk to the friend as if he were still with you. Do not feel strange about communicating with no one to listen.
- 2). Bring a representation of a favorite activity between you and your friend. A football, a cross or other small token of friendship is suitable to set near the grave or site of death. If the cemetery or family prefers to keep the grave clear of memorabilia, bring the token to hold while you remember your friend. The passing year is not nearly enough time to move past the death of a friend, and the memorabilia will be a comfort.
- 3). Attend memorial services for your friend. Communities may hold memorial services to mark the year's passing since the death, or the family may hold services among themselves. Check with the family and the community to discover if there will be memorial services, where they will be held and what the activities include. Some communities hold silent prayer vigils while others host candlelight vigils and balloon releases.
