S-10 Oil Cooler Line Removal

    • 1). Find the transmission drain pan underneath the engine. This is a large metal tank surrounded by eight bolts in the center of the engine, just off to the driver's side. Position a collection pan beneath the drain pan.

    • 2). Use a 18-mm socket wrench to loosen and remove seven of the eight bolts. Wait while the fluid drains into the collection pan. Take off the final bolt when the fluid is dripping slowly from the sides. Pull off the drain pan and set it aside with the bolts.

    • 3). Look for the oil cooler lines (1/2 inch vinyl hoses) running from the side of the transmission to the bottom of the radiator. Place the opening of the flare nut wrench head in the center of one of the hoses. Run it down to meet the nut on the transmission. Tighten the handle by squeezing and then twisting the nut clockwise to remove the it from the transmission. Pull out the line. Repeat this with the nut attached to the radiator.

    • 4). Repeat Step 3 with the other oil cooler line next to the one previously removed.
