LinkedIn Jobs Search - How to Build Your Network on LinkedIn

Let's see how LinkedIn operates in a practical world.
Read the definition of LinkedIn again. It's essentially a network of professionals as against "friends" on Facebook. It's a network of trusted professionals.
Let's see this on LinkedIn.
Step 1: Go to "Contacts" menu and then click on "Network Statistics"
Step 2: Here you'll find that your first degree connections are termed as Your trusted friends and colleagues
So, decide your definition of "trusted" professionals. To me, trusted professionals are the people who will introduce you to their first contacts or will be happy to do a favor.
Your first degree contacts are your trusted friends and colleagues.
Let's say, you and Jack are school friends, you've met multiple times after that and you want to add him in your professional network. You can go to LinkedIn, invite him and once he accepts your invitation, you both are in each other's network.
How to use your network effectively?
Let's take an example:
Jack is my first degree connection
Alex is Jack's first degree connection--and my second degree connection.
Kate is Alex first degree connection--and Jack's second degree connection--and my third degree connection

Look at the second image, I have 776 first degree connections, that means I have 776 Jacks who can help me introduce to their first degree connections i.e. 206,100+ .
Imagine, I'm using LinkedIn for job search and I see a job at XYZ company that I'm interested in. Now, I want to know who can introduce me to Kate who's working in XYZ company. To my surprise, what I see--Kate is my third degree contact and Alex's first degree contact.
I know Alex is Jack's first degree contact, so I call Jack and ask him," Hey Jack, I'm looking for a job and Alex is your first degree contact who knows Kate who works in XYZ company . Can you please ask Alex to introduce me to Kate?"
Jack is my friend and am says, "Of course , Avadhut, Alex is a good friend of mine. I'll surely do that."
Imagine the same networking happens for a multi-million business deal.
See the power of LinkedIn network.
I'm sure I'll generous and return the favor whenever Jack or Alex or Kate need my help in networking.
One important thing here--have your first degree contacts either be your friends or colleagues or business professionals whom you've met or talked to at least once.
You can also connect to people on LinkedIn with whom you have had an interesting conversation or expecting a possible mutually beneficial business relationship.
Every person you add on LinkedIn, you grow your connections exponentially.
