Definition:

A metronome is an electronic or mechanical device that measures beats per minute. It sounds out a tempo with regular beeps or clicks, and can be set to many standard speeds. Metronomes may also be simulated by musical software.

Metronome marks are found above the very first measure of the treble staff, and may be written ?=120, or M.M.=120.
