Character Counts School Grants

    Federal Funding

    • Schools can choose to pay for Character Counts through grants allocated annually through Titles I, II and IV from the Department of Education. Educators often aren't aware that funds earmarked for professional development and safe and drug free schools can also be used for character education.

    State Funding

    • Grant seekers should work with their state department of education to see if any funds are available for character education. These may include competitive grant funds, as well as funds the state receives that must be earmarked for character education.

    Local Foundation Grants

    • Most communities include local philanthropic foundations that annually offer grants to non-profit and educational organizations. Consider contacting local organizations to see if they would be interested in funding Character Counts projects.

    National Foundation Grants

    • In addition to local funders, many national foundations support character education through grants ranging from $1,000 to $25,000. These foundations include the Pepsi Refresh project, AT&T, Sprint, Starbucks and the Tiger Woods Foundation.
