Definition of Agroforestry

Agroforestry, also called forest farming or woods farming, is the practice of growing or cultivating non-timber products in existing forest land. That existing forest land can be natural forest or grown and planted timber.

Agroforestry often involves cultivating one or more of the following: medicinal herbs, such as ginseng, elderberries, or bloodroot; maple sugaring (making maple syrup); mushrooms; fruit and nuts; native ornamentals; decorative plants; plants for dyes; plants for crafting.
