Maytag Washer Repair Tips

    Power

    • If your washing machine will not turn on, check the power cord to see if it is plugged in. Go outside to the home's circuit breaker box to make sure the switch has not been tripped. Replace the fuse if it is blown. If none of these steps have restored power to the washing machine, test the electrical outlet by plugging in another appliance. Call an electrician to check the outlet if the second appliance also does not work.

    Lid Switch

    • A defective door switch also can prevent your Maytag washer from starting. The switch should click when you close the door. Replace the door switch if you do not hear this click.

    Drainage

    • If the water does not drain out of your Maytag washing machine, the drain hose at the bottom of the unit may be blocked. Clear the hose and test the washing machine again. If it still does not drain, replace the drain pump. Remove and inspect the water pump assembly if no water is pumping out of the machine. Take out the pump so you can access the pulley behind it. If you cannot turn this pulley by hand, replace the pulley and water pump.

    Movement

    • Listen to the washer as it runs through a cleaning cycle. If the unit does not agitate the clothes, remove the agitator. Replace it if the inside of the column appears to be stripped. If the motor turns on, but the drum does not rotate during the spin cycle, the drive belt may be broken or loose. If you do not hear the spin cycle turn on at all, replace the motor.

    Water Inlet Valves

    • If the washing machine does not have hot or cold water, there may be a defective or clogged water inlet valve. Hot water and cold water have separate inlet valves, so make sure you check the valve that corresponds to your problem. Replace the valve if cleaning it out does not correct the issue.
