Microsoft Security Essentials

• 1). Open the Microsoft Security Essentials website (see Resources).
  
  
• 2). Download Microsoft Security Essentials by clicking the "Download Now" link on the Microsoft Security Essentials webpage, then clicking your operating system version. Click "Run" when prompted.
  
  
• 3). Click "Next" in the welcome window.
  
  
• 4). Read the license agreement, then click "I Accept" if you accept.
  
  
• 5). Verify your installed version of Windows is properly licensed by clicking "Validate."
  
  
• 6). Install Microsoft Security Essentials by clicking "Install."
  
  
• 7). Scan your computer by clicking "Finish."
  
  

Avast

• 1). Open the Avast website (see Resources).
  
  
• 2). Download Avast by clicking "Download" on the Avast webpage, then clicking "Download Now" on the CNET Download page. Click "Run" when prompted.
  
  
• 3). Click "Next" in the Avast Installation window.
  
  
• 4). Select whether or not Avast should upload information about suspicious applications by clicking the "Participate in the Avast Community" box.
  
  
• 5). Install Avast by clicking "Next."
  
  
• 6). Confirm or deny the install of Google Chrome in the "Avast Recommends Google Chrome" window. Install Google Chrome by clicking "Next." Deny Google Chrome by clicking "No, Do Not Install the Google Chrome Web Browser," then clicking "Next."
  
  
• 7). Finish the Avast installation by clicking "Finish."
  
  

AVG

• 1). Open the AVG website (see Resources).
  
  
• 2). Download AVG by clicking "Download Now" on the AVG webpage, then clicking "Download Now" on the CNET Download page. Click "Run" when prompted.
  
  
• 3). Click "Next" in the AVG welcome window.
  
  
• 4). Select the free version of AVG by clicking "Basic Protection."
  
  
• 5). Install AVG by clicking "Next" in the "Begin Your AVG Installation" window.
  
  
• 6). Read the AVG license agreement, then click "I Have Read the License Agreement" and "Accept" if you accept.
  
  
• 7). Select your installation type. Perform a standard installation by clicking "Next."
  
  
• 8). Activate your free AVG license by clicking "Next."
  
  
• 9). Configure the AVG toolbar settings. Disable the AVG toolbar by deselecting the "Install AVG Security Toolbar" checkbox by clicking it, then click "Next."
