Butterfly Nursery Decorations

    Accessories

    • Butterflies are fluttering all over decor that is fantastically fit for a nursery. Options include butterfly wall art and paintings, three-dimensional butterfly wall hangings that can also be affixed to the ceiling, butterfly lamps, butterfly switch plate covers and butterfly appliqués and stencils that can be applied to the furniture, walls and windowsills. No butterfly nursery would be complete without a butterfly mobile. You can go wild with butterflies only, or couple them with flowers, ladybugs, dragonflies or a fairy theme.

    Colors and Patterns

    • The obvious base color for a butterfly nursery would be a soft white or light pastel, such as pink, blue, yellow or lavender. Pick a deeper shade in the same color family for accents, such as a burgundy with a light pink. Walls can be painted a soft hue and outfitted with the many butterfly accessories. Another option would be to go for butterfly printed wallpaper, which can be used on the entire wall or halfway up and bordered with a painted wood trim. You can also make the butterfly nursery less flowery and more sophisticated by opting for a black, white and taupe base color combination and letting all the striking colors fall to the butterfly accessories, bedding and window treatments.

    Bedding and Fabric

    • A butterfly print sheet set and drapery adds an instant theme to the entire room. If you feel you are overdoing the theme, you can always opt for a soft pink, blue or yellow that matches the rest of the room. Canopies over the crib work especially well in a butterfly nursery and they, too, can be butterfly print or soft solids. Finish off the soft touches with butterfly-inspired throw rugs, lampshades, pillows and throws.
