Where to Upload Your PSD Files
No one can argue with the fact that Photoshop is currently one of the most popular and useful photography tools. Many Web designers and layout artists intend to upload PSD (Photoshop documents/designs) files online. But there usually is a problem over where to do it.
Unfortunately, WordPress and most Web servers are not set up to easily and instantly allow uploading of PSF files. However, it is still possible to upload such files in WordPress and other blogs. Here are simple and effective procedures on how to do it.
Updating php.ini
To begin the task to upload PSD files in any blog, there is a need to update php.ini. Doing so will override PHP configurations to facilitate maximum uploads of files, which is usually set at just around 2 MB on typical servers. For beginners, upgrading to 8 MB will be ideal. To do so, open the PHP configuration file and choose €upload_max_filesize=2M'. Change it to €upload_max_filesize=8M'.
The maximum file upload configuration can be changed to any value higher than 8 MB. If the blog is being run on a shared server, there is a need to ask the system administrator to initiate or make the update. After modifying the PHP configuration, the Apache should be restarted on the server, which again can be done by the system administrator upon request.
Updating Mime Types
After the previous update, a user can start to upload PSD files on the blog. The task may or may not be successful initially. If an error occurs, uploading will certainly not proceed. But there is no need to worry because fixing the problem will not be a hassle.
In WordPress, the documentation about Mime types should be read and understood. Upon opening it, there will be numerous plugins to be found. Particularly, the PJW Mime config will be a helpful plugin as it will allow users to extend any list of Mime types that are supported by a built-in uploader.
To install that WordPress plugin, go to the plugin folder and choose wp-content/plugins/. Activate the plugin on the screen. Then, go to €Settings.' Choose Mime types to add or delete any chosen Mime type. After successfully installing the plugin, €.psd' should be added. It is an acceptable and uploadable Mime type so expect no problem doing it. After these procedures, the user can instantly and quickly upload PSD files. It is as simple as that.
