The Sugar Cycle - Just Reverse it to Lose Weight!

The relationship of blood sugar to weight gain works two ways: High blood sugar leads to weight gain because it signals the body to store fat.
Then, as your weight increases, blood sugar goes up.
So, as one goes up, so does the other.
It feels like a rolling stone, and you're helpless to stop it.
But here's the good part: It's reversible! If you lose some weight, blood sugar can go down.
So, as your blood sugar drops, it gets easier to lose weight.
So all you need to do is eat more healthy foods that do not raise your blood sugar, along with smaller portions, on a regular schedule throughout the day...
like, 3 regular meals and 2 snacks per day.
Since blood sugar is affected primarily by the carbohydrates we eat, we just need to eat the right ones.
There are two kinds: simple and complex.
The simple carbs include such things as refined foods, like white flour and white sugar (found in most snack items, like candy and donuts).
These carbs are hard on your pancreas, because they break down into blood sugar so quickly that the demand for insulin is immediate and large.
The insulin transports the sugar (which is now glucose) out of the blood and into cells as fast as it can, leaving you with lower blood sugar.
All this can lead to that carbohydrate roller coaster ride of dramatic highs and drastic lows.
But if the cells become "saturated," so to speak, and won't accept any more glucose, they could become insulin resistant..
..
in other words, a pre-diabetes situation.
Then, when the pancreas becomes exhausted and can't produce enough insulin anymore, there is no way to get that extra glucose out of your blood stream...
and then it becomes Type 2 diabetes, and you may eventually need to artificially provide insulin from outside sources.
A normal pancreas can deliver any amount of insulin you need for those sugar spikes in your diet, but often this leads to even less blood sugar than you had before, resulting in a "crash.
" Suddenly, you're hypoglycemic and craving something to eat or you're going to get a headache, or fall asleep.
This can lead to a cycle of repeated snacking, seen as a "rescue" snack just to get through the day.
But it sets your body up for failure in your quest to lose weight.
In the past, many diabetics would say it was impossible for them to lose weight, because they had to have some sugar to prevent low blood sugar at certain times of the day.
It was common for them to carry "emergency" candy bars around.
But it's been proven that this cycle can be broken after all.
The secret is to eat the other kind of carbohydrates...
the complex ones.
These include whole foods which are high in fiber and take longer to digest.
Things like fruits and veggies, whole grain breads.
And don't forget to include lean proteins and healthy fats in your diet, along with nutritional supplements as needed.
Check with your health professional to work out your personal plan.
The bottom line to losing weight isn't about eliminating specific foods, but about eating the right kinds of food, smaller portions, cutting your calorie intake, and getting some exercise.
Sorry, there are no magic bullets.
