Where to Go in Spain in May
May is one of the most popular months to visit Spain. The weather will be getting pretty good, particularly in the south, and there'll be plenty to do. You can also beat a lot of the crowds by coming a bit before the peak season.
Probably the biggest event of the month, particularly if you're a fan of alternative rock music, is the Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona.

Cordoba has two big events in May. At the start of the month there is the Cruzes de Mayo Cruces de Mayo festival, with it famous competition for the best-decorated patio.
Then, at the end of the month, is the Cordoba Festival, with a bullfighting festival at the same time.
Cordoba is one of Spain's hottest cities (in all senses of the word), so coming a bit before the height of summer is a good idea.
Madrid in May is dominated by the San Isidro Festival, Madrid's biggest cultural event with daily bullfights for most of the month (see Bullfighting Schedule for Madrid 2014).

The big event this month in Caceres is the world-famous WOMAD Festival world music festival. Note that last year they were very late in officially confirming the 2013 dates, but the event did take place as expected. No doubt the same will happen again this year.
Seville has another world music festival. Not as high profile as the WOMAD festival, but worth checking out if you will be in Seville anyway.
Much like Cordoba, Seville gets extremely high temperatures in the summer (it is often said to be the hottest city in Europe). May is a good time to avoid the excesses of July and August.
