Preparing For A Long Road Trip
Road trips are a great way to spend time with your family, friends, or even just with yourself! How do you prepare for such a long journey? What do you need to remember? How can you ensure you are driving safely or most cost effectively? These are all questions people will often ask or think about when it comes to planning a car trip. Here are our top tips for organising and preparing a road trip.
Plan a route
Using maps and online tools, make sure you have a route planned for your journey. Even if you end up taking your car or vehicle off route, at least you have a plan of where to start and end. Make a note of some of the places you want to stop at on the way, that way you can incorporate them. Planning a route will also help you work out where fuel stations, hotels and other resting points are so you can work out cost and time.
Accommodation
It is impossible to say whether you will end up needing unplanned accommodation or not, but we would recommend booking at least a couple of places beforehand. Make sure there is somewhere to park your vehicle! There are lots of mobile apps you can download to find the nearest place to rest your head, just make sure your location services are on!
Take your own car or hire?
This is often something people who are planning a road trip are really unsure of. Some people prefer to take their own car on a road trip as they know how to drive it, or they know what sort of fuel consumption to expect. However, some people find that hiring a car can be a more cost effective way of doing things. If, for example, you need a larger vehicle, you may be able to rent one for cheaper than it would cost to get a trailer, or roof rack. This is usually down to personal preference, but hire companies are very useful and will be able to provide you with a vehicle that matches your needs. Most rental companies also now have very eco friendly motors available to hire.
Have fun
This is one of the most important things to remember on your trip Have fun! Road trips are a fantastic opportunity, that everyone should do at some point in their lives, so just enjoy it!
