How to Order an Article of Incorporation

    • 1). Visit your state's Secretary of State website. For example, Georgia's Secretary of State website is http://www.sos.georgia.gov. On the site, click on the link that says Corporation Registration or Renewal.

    • 2). Select the option that describes your corporation best from the available online filing types. For example, you could choose Limited Liability Corporation, Profit Corporation, Non-profit Corporations or Professional Corporations.

    • 3). You will be prompted to enter the name of your corporation and a name reservation number, if you have already acquired one. If you don't have a name reservation number (which can be acquired from the same website), type in the name of your corporation exactly as you would like it to be created, save and continue to the next page.

    • 4). Enter your (filer's) name and complete contact information on the next page. On the next page, enter your corporation's mailing address. Select the type of Registered Agent you wish to be, Individual or Entity. You will then be prompted to enter the name and contact information of the registered agent and those of the corporation's organizers. On the final page you will be able to review your article of incorporation form with all the details you have entered. Edit wherever necessary. Be aware that the information you enter here is viewable publicly, so refrain from providing sensitive, personal information such as SSN or EIN.

    • 5). Pay the filing fee for your article of incorporation. This amount varies between $30 and $300 from state to state and from one type of corporation to another. You should receive confirmation of your corporation's filing via email and postal mail within a few weeks.
