How to Make a Small Heart Pillow

    • 1). Purchase a heart-shaped pattern, or make your own: Draw a heart on a piece of paper in the desired size, and then cut along the border using a sharp scissors.

    • 2). Purchase enough fabric to be able to fold it in half to make one or more pillows. Fold the fabric in half on the floor or sturdy table with the design or "right" sides facing each other. Place the heart pattern on top of the "wrong" sides of the fabric, and pin it to the fabric with straight pins. Space the pins about one inch apart.

    • 3). Cut the fabric along the edges of the pattern. After cutting, you should now have two identical pieces of heart-shaped fabric. They will form the front and back of the pillow.

    • 4). Sew along the border of the pillow about one-fourth inch from the edge, but leave a few inches open in order to stuff the pillow.

    • 5). Turn the pillow inside out to the design or "right" side of the fabric. Use your fingers or a knitting needle to smooth the pointed end of the heart flat. Iron the fabric until smooth.

    • 6). Stuff the pillow with the cotton or polyester batting, pushing the batting in a little at a time until the pillow has reached the desired firmness.

    • 7). Fold the open edges inward. Hand-sew the opening shut with small stitches working the needle so that the stitches don't show. Knot the ends of the thread, snip them close to the knot and push the ends inside of the pillow.
