The Pennsylvania National Guard is one of the largest national guards in the United States as of 2010, boasting the highest enrollment of any state Army National Guard in the country. Before joining the Pennsylvania National Guard however, there are several requirements that must be fulfilled. - An applicant to the Pennsylvania National Guard must be able to pass a medical examination given at the time of application. The applicant should be in general good health and should have no significant physical difficulties.
- In order to join the National Guard, the applicant must be between the ages of 17 and 35. Those with previous military experience or service, however, may enroll above the age of 35. Applicants under 18 years of age must provide proof of consent from their parent or legal guardian.
- Applicants must have a valid high school diploma or be in high school at the time of enrollment. A GED is also acceptable. Applicants must also score a minimum of 50 on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery exam.
- In order to enroll in the Pennsylvania National Guard, an applicant must not have a standing criminal record.
