Novelty Christmas gifts make excellent gag gifts or smaller stocking stuffers. It may be a good idea to keep a couple of nicer Christmas novelty gifts on-hand for any unexpected visitors, as well. For example, if your child is visiting from college and brings an unexpected friend home for the holidays, you'll have a little something for her as well. Or, make it a tradition to hand out a small novelty gift every Christmas so the family has something to talk about and look forward to. - Novelty apparel items can be worn during the days leading up to Christmas, or on the big day. Some items are best left at home, while others can even make it to the office. Sweaters, scarves, pajamas, aprons, socks and ties can all display Santa Claus, reindeer, snowmen, candy canes, Christmas trees or other items that are typically associated with Christmas. Words or phrases, such as "naughty or nice" or "be naughty and save Santa a trip" can accompany Christmas images.
- Christmas novelty jewelry can serve as a traditional gift given every Christmas that's also practical during the holiday season. Earrings, bracelets, pins or pendants can display blinking mini-bulbs, miniature glass ornaments, snowmen, candy canes, reindeer, Santa Claus, wrapped gifts, Christmas trees or jingling bells. Novelty tie tacks and cufflinks are available for men.
- Household items can double as Christmas decorations in following years. Plates and mugs with Christmas items or scenes can be used to serve Christmas dinners for future Christmases. Towels, place mats and table cloths are also useful holiday items. Soaps and candles can be set out each year in the main living areas or bathrooms during Christmas. Consider making or purchasing a special ornament or snow globe each year to start a tradition, as well.
- Pens or pencils with holiday scenes can brighten your mood every time you use them, particularly those with a scene and "snow" inside of the top. Pillows or warm blankets with holiday scenes, images and phrases, such as "is it too late to be good?" also make useful novelty gifts.
- Christmas candy and stuffed animals will likely delight all of your guests, including the younger ones. Consider motion sensor or squeezable stuffed animals that sing a Christmas song when activated.
