How to Produce Slotted Carpet Blades
- 1). Lay out all of the old slotted carpet blades that are old or damaged. You will fix the old slotted carpet blades to produce new ones. These old blades will work like they are brand new once they are sharpened.
- 2). Wipe off the surface of the blades with a clean rag. Remove all visible dirt and debris from the surface of each slotted carpet blade. This will make it easier to sharpen the blades. Repeat the process for all of the slotted carpet blades you are going to sharpen.
- 3). Set out a ceramic sharpening stone and squirt a few dabs of lubricating oil onto the stone. This will keep the pores of the stone from getting clogged with grit when you are sharpening them. Spread out the oil with another clean rag so it is covering the entire surface.
- 4). Hold the first slotted carpet blade over the sharpening stone and move it back and forth over the center of the stone. Hold the stone firmly in place with your non-dominant hand so it does not move while you are sharpening and move the blade back and forth using your dominant hand.
- 5). Add more lubricant when the shavings begin to cover the surface of the stone and continue until you have produced a blade that is sharp and looks brand new. Repeat the process for all of the remaining slotted carpet blades until they all achieve a new look. Wipe them all clean and remove all shavings and oil on the blades with a clean rag.
