As he neared the bus station, he moved into the bus lane then swerved to avoid hitting the bus. However, in missing the bus, he ended up on the bus stop platform where people were waiting for the next bus.
At the time of initial news reports, it was unclear whether the automobile driver was under the influence of alcohol or other substances, though a field sobriety test was administered at the scene. Officials say the investigation is ongoing.
Some witnesses indicated that it was not the first time that they had seen an automobile try to go through the bus lane at the station, but most said that such occurrences are rare.
