Freeway Accidents Mean That Everyone Needs Automobile Insurance In Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that an accident on the 110 Freeway near the 105 Freeway in South Los Angeles has sent seven people to the hospital with injuries. Reports from the local CBS affiliate indicate that those injured were pedestrians who were waiting at a bus stop.

According to officials, the injuries ranged from serious to critical, and those injured included one female and six males. Emergency personnel transported all of the victims to Los Angeles area hospitals. Over 50 firefighters were on the scene to attend to victims and their injuries.

Witnesses at the South Los Angeles bus station indicated that the driver of the automobile was travelling north on the 110 Freeway. As he neared the bus station, he moved into the bus lane then swerved to avoid hitting the bus. However, in missing the bus, he ended up on the bus stop platform where people were waiting for the next bus.

At the time of initial news reports, it was unclear whether the automobile driver was under the influence of alcohol or other substances, though a field sobriety test was administered at the scene. Officials say the investigation is ongoing.

Some witnesses indicated that it was not the first time that they had seen an automobile try to go through the bus lane at the station, but most said that such occurrences are rare. Even when it does happen, noted one observer, the vehicle usually manages to get through without difficulty. Obviously, she added, that such was not the case in this particular incident.

Sadly, such tragic events remind all of us of just how dangerous Los Angeles highways are. It is so easy to get in your automobile each day assuming that you will get from point A to point B with relative ease. When accidents such as these happen, it serves as a jarring reminder that there are no guarantees when it comes to automobile travel and whether or not an accident might happen.

It is because of the possibility of an accident that automobile insurance in Los Angeles is an absolute necessity. Insurance is essential no matter where one lives or travels; however, the sheer amount of traffic on Los Angeles area highways and byways heightens the need because the increased population increases the likelihood of automobile accidents.

Some people have a fallacious sense of security, thinking that no harm will ever befall them either because they are very safe drivers or consider themselves lucky. The incident in South Los Angeles shows us that accidents can happen anywhere at any time. Having adequate automobile insurance provides the security of knowing that you will not suffer financial ruin should they happen to you.
