- 1). Go to a home improvement store. In the lighting sections, specifically the outlet sections, there will be switch plates. Most home improvement stores will carry a wide variety of switch plates, from inexpensive plastic ones to solid wood plates.
- 2). Visit a lighting store for fancier switch plates. Stores that specialize in only lighting will also sell switch plates, but there are a few draw-backs. The selection will be very limited at a specialty store, and the price tags will be much higher. But if you're looking for fancy, unique or antique-looking switch plates, a lighting store is the way to go.
- 3). Purchase your switch plates from a hardware store. Although the selection will be smaller than at a home improvement store, most of the switch plates at hardware store will be wallet friendly. At a hardware store, you can expect to find quite a few different styles of plastic switch and perhaps a few ceramic ones.
