How to Replace a Wiper Fluid Motor on a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix
- 1). Park the car on a level surface, and raise the hood. Locate the washer fluid reservoir, which is a clear tank with a black cap. It is in the back of the engine, behind the radiator, next to the red transmission dipstick.
- 2). Place a collection pan underneath the washer tank below the car to catch fluid as it falls from the tank. Remove the three bolts fastening the tank in place with the 1/2-inch socket wrench. Keep the bolts in a safe place.
- 3). Reach under the bottom of the tank until you feel the cylindrical wiper motor. Detach the power cable that is plugged into the motor by lifting the tab and pulling it outward. Use the clamp removal tool to take off the intake hose attached to the motor. Wait while the wiper fluid pours into the collection pan below.
- 4). Lift the tank out of the engine cavity. Pull the motor out of the bottom of the tank. Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the rubber grommet from the tank. Replace the grommet with one that comes with the new wiper motor. Spray the inside of the rubber grommet with lubricant. Push the new motor in until it snaps into place.
- 5). Attach the power cable and the intake hose to the new pump. Place the tank back into the engine. Fasten it with the bolts. Unscrew the tank cap, and pour in washer fluid until it reaches the MAX line. Put the cap back on. Close the engine hood.
