How to Report Copyright Violations
- 1). Report copyright violation to the Federal Trade Commission Bureau of Consumer Protection. You can do this by filing a complaint through the FTC website. The FTC does not help individuals pursue their cases, but the FTC does report trends and violations so that the other party eventually develops a reputation for stealing people’s work. You can contact the FTC at a regional level too (see Resources).
- 2). Go to your local Federal Bureau of Investigation office and file a complaint with the FBI.
- 3). File the information about how someone used your copyrighted work at the FBI Tips and Public leads website. This website is designed for the public to give the FBI information about crimes. The FBI uses the information to investigate the crimes (see Resources).
- 4). Report copyright infringement of webpages or online work at the Internet Crime Complaint Center (see Resources).
