How to Use Veneer Stone Mortar Mix
- 1). Mix the mortar with water in a wheelbarrow using a hoe to blend it to a smooth consistency. Check the consistency of the mortar. Shovel a small amount of the mixed mortar into a grout bag with a hand shovel. Squeeze the bag so some of the mortar comes out. If it runs out fast without much pressure to the bag, then you need to add more mix to the mortar. If it is difficult to squeeze it out of the bag, you need to add some water.
- 2). Prepare the wall for the mortar and stone veneer. Staple 15-pound felt paper with the staple gun to your wall. Locate the studs behind the wall with a stud finder and mark the location with a marker. Hammer the metal lath over the felt paper with the galvanized nails.
- 3). Layer a coat of the mixed stone veneer mortar onto the metal lath with a trowel. Start from the top corners of the wall and work your across the wall and down. Spread it on evenly to a thickness of three-eighth inches. Keep the mortar moist by spraying it with water from a spray bottle.
- 4). Spray the back of the stone veneer with water and then apply a layer of mortar to it before gently pushing it to the mortared wall. Continue this process with the remaining stones and mortar.
