How to Install a Front Hitch on a 2001 GMC 2500 Yukon XL
- 1). Remove the retaining bolts from the factory tow hooks at the front of the truck with a socket and ratchet wrench. Lower the hooks from the truck. Save the hooks and the mounting bolts for possible future installation.
- 2). Raise the hitch into position with the draw bar tube facing outward from the front of the truck. Line up the forward mounting holes in the hitch to the holes where the tow hooks were removed.
- 3). Insert washers and bolts into the front mounting holes of the hitch and tighten them finger-tight into the threaded holes where the tow hook retaining bolts were removed.
- 4). Use the rear mounting holes in the hitch as templates and drill a 9/16 inch hole in each frame rail with a power drill. Insert a bolt into each hole and secure them with washers and nuts finger-tight.
- 5). Push a socket onto a torque wrench until it snaps into place, then tighten all fasteners to the torque specified in the hitch instruction manual.
