How to Patch an Aluminum Radiator

    • 1). Place a drip pan underneath the radiator.

    • 2). Use a wrench to open the drain valve (petcock) on the underside of the radiator to drain it of all coolant.

    • 3). Pour denatured alcohol into the radiator and swish it around before draining it. This will clean out impurities inside the radiator.

    • 4). Soak a rag in denatured alcohol and use it to clean the exterior of the radiator.

    • 5). Spray brake cleaner over the damaged area and allow to dry. Brake cleaner will remove any oil or grease that would prevent the epoxy from bonding.

    • 6). Cover the least damaged side of the radiator with masking tape.

    • 7). Pull the damaged fins of the radiator away from the internal tubing using a pair of pliers.

    • 8). Read the mixing instructions that came with the epoxy and mix accordingly.

    • 9). Rest the radiator on the tape side with the damaged area facing up.
