My Top 5 Romantic Movies
With all the bad things happening in the world around us, we all need to find a place that makes sense.
A place where we can go to forget our troubles and take a deep breath.
Romantic movies are the perfect escape for me.
They represent a world I wish I lived in, a world of sunshine and happy endings.
The following are five movies I love to curl up on my couch with.
An Officer and a Gentleman (1982) Richard Gere portrays Zack Mayo, a young and self-centered aspiring navy pilot who learns the value of friendship and love while training in Navy Flight School.
Debra Winger plays Paula, the local factory worker he begins to romance but initially resists falling in love with.
The film does a wonderful job setting up the perfect, love conquers all final scene, where Zack arrives at Paula's factory in full naval dress whites and carries her off into the sunset as her co-workers cheer.
Ghost (1990) Sam and Molly, played by Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, had the perfect life together until Sam is attacked and murdered by a mugger.
Trapped on Earth as a ghost, Sam learns that his murder was not an accident and Molly's life is now in danger.
The only person that can see Sam is a psychic, played by Whoopi Goldberg, who reluctantly helps him warn Molly.
A very touching film, especially for anyone who has ever wished they had one last moment with a deceased loved one.
Titanic (1997) James Cameron's epic story about the sinking of the Titanic features Kate Winslet playing the wealthy, engaged Rose who falls in love with street artist Jack Dawson, played by Leonardo DiCaprio.
When the unsinkable Titanic started to sink, the film took on a classic disaster movie feel that kept the men engaged, while the women were swept up in the ill-fated romance between Jack and Rose.
City of Angels (1998) Nicolas Cage has the role of Seth, one of the many angels on Earth who remain unseen, watching over and protecting humans.
The main responsibility of Seth is to appear to those close to death and guide them to the afterlife.
While waiting for the passing of a patient on the operating table, Seth is impressed with the surgeon, played by Meg Ryan, and falls in love with her.
He learns that he can give up eternal life as an angel to become human and he does just that to be with her.
A Walk to Remember (2002) Shane West plays Landon, the cool kid who hangs with the in crowd at school.
Mandy Moore absolutely shines as Jamie Sullivan, the plain and ordinary girl with a passion for life.
Against both of their expectations and the scorn of his friends, the two fall in love.
He soon learns that she is afflicted with terminal leukemia and is no longer responding to treatments, but that doesn't stop him from proposing and giving her the wedding of her dreams.
A place where we can go to forget our troubles and take a deep breath.
