Lamotrigine is an anti-convulsant drug which is used for treating chronic neurological disorder known as epilepsy. It is also used for the treatment of bipolar disorder. Bipolar problem is the psychological disorder that cause change in the pattern of the mood in the patient. Branded as Lamictal, Lamorigine 100mg medication treats partial seizures and it works to stabilize the mood of the person. This medication is applied to the patient who is above the age of 2 years. For the treatment of seizures this medication can be used along or in combination of other medication.
How should I take this medication?
The dosage of Lamictal Chewable medication should be taken as it is suggested by the doctor. Do not take this medication of your own.Do not skip the medicine even if missed take it immediately and if it is time for the next medicine take it at the regular time, but do not take two medicine at a time. Your doctor might also need to change the dosage and frequency based on how your body responds to the drug. Do not skip the medication, make a regular timing for taking this medicine and if you forget to take this medication, take it immediately if there is time for your regular schedule. The effect of this medication decrease when it is used along with the combination of birth control contraceptive pill. It can be taken before having food or after having food. Do not expose Lamotrigine medication in heat, light and moisture always keep in dry and cool place. The patient should check the direction give in the label of the medication.
What are the possible side effects of using this drug?
The patient may suffer from side effects of Lamotrigine such as the formation of rashes in the skin, throat sore, head pain, change of color of skin, pain of chest, paleness, cold, fever, body pain, pain of muscles, weak feeling, change of appetite, dark color urine, clay color stool and change of color of skin or eye into yellow (jaundice)The patient may feel dizzy, sleepiness, unclear vision, minor nausea, queasiness, diarrhea problem, upset of stomach, head-ache, decrease of weight, sleep disorder (insomnia), uncommon dreams, running nose and nasal blockage. Lamotrigine may also cause allergic reactions like hives, breathlessness, swelling on face, lips, tongue, and throat. It may make the mouth go dry, induce drowsiness and light headedness
What precautions do I need to follow while using Lamotrigine?
This medication should not be used in the patient who is suffering from kidney, liver or heart disorder without consulting the doctor and if the patient any of this disorder then there might be a need of adjustment of dosage. The patient should be carefully monitored while using Lamotrigine drug as it may increase severe side effects. Lactating mothers should consult their doctor before taking Lamotrigine medication as it might pass into the breast milk and cause harm to the nursed child though no such incidence has been reported yet. Patient who is pregnant or planning to get pregnant should consult the doctor before using this medication as it is not known whether or not it harm the unborn child.
