Travel Western Australia and Experience the Rottnest Island

Western Australia Holiday Destinations – The Rottnest Island

The Rottnest Island, or "Rotto" as how locals affectionately call is, is an island located just off the coast of Perth. It's a must-visit if you travel Western Australia. The Island is a really small island, measuring just a little over 11 kilometers long and four and a half kilometers wide. What it lacks in size though, the island makes up for in beauty.

One of the most important things a tourist should know is that there are no vehicles in the island. Yes, the only means of transportation around it are bicycles, which don't seem to affect the volume of WA tourism at all. In fact, it seems to have added allure to the place.

To reach the Island, you just have to ride a short ferry trip from Perth, Freemantle or Hillarys. You will set foot in the island in a few minutes. Don't worry about bringing a bike, you can easily rent one at the Rottnest Island Bike Hire for a couple of dollars.

Travel Western Australia and Experience the Sun, Swimming, Snorkeling

There are lots of places to see in WA and experience the wonderful and breath-taking beaches in the state. Take the Rottnest Island as an example. Never have I seen such blue waters my entire life! And the sun, I can just bask under it the whole day!

Take the family into the Island and have fun running under the sun, swimming in the water and snorkeling!

If it's your first time visiting the island, your first stop should be the Rottnest Island Visitor Center where you can get information on the island's environment, history, services and attractions. They will also provide you with a map so you can easily find your way around the place.

Generally, the weather in Western Australia is great all year-round. Snow is rare, and rainfall only happens once in a while – giving tourists the opportunity to enjoy the sun as well as making the place a great winter escape.

Travel Western Australia and Watch the Quokkas

A visit to the Rottnest Island will never be complete without seeing the quokkas. The quokkas are small squirrel-like marsupials the size of a domestic cat. They are natural residents of the Rotto and is the inspiration for the island's name.

They are now considered endangered, which is why the Australian government is protecting them. The quokkas can be seen around the island, although you can also hire a tour guide to bring you to the best places in Rotto and find the best places to see quokkas.
