How to Select a Truck Camper for a Pickup Truck
- 1). Measure the width and length of the bed of your truck. This is to ensure you purchase the correct size camper that will fit your vehicle.
- 2). Decide whether you want an aluminum or a fiberglass camper top. Although aluminum tops tend to last longer, fiberglass camper tops are often more attractive.
- 3). Decide how tall the camper top should be. The determining factor here is whether you will use it for camping. If so, select a top that extends up over the cab of the truck. If you simply want to haul materials or lock up items, go with a top that is the same height as the cab of the truck.
- 4). Decide if you want a camper top with windows or no windows. You may want windows if you intend to use the top for camping purposes.
- 5). Decide how much you want to spend. Prices vary greatly for camper tops. Fiberglass tops tend to be more expensive than aluminum. Opting for windows increases the cost as well.
- 6). Decide what color or finish you would like. This depends on the color of your truck. The camper top does not have to match exactly, as you can choose a complementary color as well.
- 7). Decide whether to buy new or used. A general rule of thumb is that if your pickup truck is older, then purchase a used camper top. If your truck is newer, a new camper top will fit better and look better as well.
