Diets to Get Rid of Cellulite

    What to Eat

    • A balanced diet is essential to get rid of cellulite. Crash diets or diets that focus on one specific food group while neglecting the others can lead to the build-up of toxins and to the body not being able to process dangerous chemicals (which are then accumulated and turned into fat). Drinking tons of water (at least six to eight glasses a day) will help the body clean itself and facilitate digestion.

Fiber is essential for a cellulite-free body, as fiber helps with the digestive process and aids the body on getting rid of toxins. The best sources of fiber are fruits, vegetables and whole grains, but you could also add a fiber supplement if you are not getting enough from your diet. Produce that is especially high in nutrients and fiber includes berries, grapefruit, spinach, carrots and fennel.

While fat is essential for the functioning of the body, unsaturated (vegetable) fats are less damaging. Concentrate on lowering the amount of animal fats you eat and instead consume olive oil, avocados and nuts. Dairy products are especially high in fat and contribute to the forming (or increasing) of cellulite.

    What to Avoid

    • Dietary toxins and fat excesses are stored under the skin, causing water retention and leading to bloating and to an uneven appearance. When the skin is not smooth and there is too much (instead of muscle) under the skin, cellulite can be seen. One way to fight is to eliminate from the diet foods that cause free radicals to damage the skin. This is mostly done by avoiding processed foods, high-sodium meals and high-fat products. Meats and other animal products also cause toxins to build up, especially in people who are on high-protein diets. On the other hand, eating too much sugars or white breads and flour can also lead to cellulite, which points out the importance of avoiding all-or-nothing diets. As a general rule, avoid anything that is overly processed or are high in hydrogenated fats and sugars.
