How to Install Carpet Tiles Wall-to-wall?
Carpet tiles offer an easy-to-install, and often economical alternative to conventional wall-to-wall carpeting.
They can also offer several green advantages.
Here are 7 steps installation guide: 1.
Clean the floor thoroughly - and make sure it is completely dry.
Snap a chalk line between opposing corners of the room to create an x marking the room's center.
2.
Measure and mark - the exact center of each wall, then snap chalk lines between the marks to create two additional perpendicular grid lines.
3.
Lay perpendicular starter rows - of carpet titles along the second set of chalk lines.
Make sure the tiles are butted squarely together.
If necessary, adjust the layout to minimize cut tiles or to make cut border tiles of equal size at opposite sides of the room.
Re-snap chalk lines as needed after adjustments.
4.
Connect the tiles - in the starter rows together using the provided adhesive tabs.
Place one tab at each seam, sticky side up, so the tab is centered on the seam.
Press the tile edges down onto the tab to adhere them.
5.
To mark border tiles for cutting - place a new tile face down on the floor, and slip it underneath the last full tile in the starter row.
Make sure the new tile is oriented properly based on the back markings.
Mark the new tile for cutting along the edge where the tiles overlap.
6.
Cut the border tile - with a carpet knife or utility knife using a framing square to ensure a straight cut.
Start with a few light passes before cutting completely through the tile.
Stick each cut border tile into place using adhesive tabs, so the cut edge is against the wall.
7.
Complete the installation - by filling in each of the four quadrants, working outward from the center of the room.
Tip: to fit tiles around doorways and wall openings, position a full tile against the wall and mark the edges of the tile where they meet the opening and the wall or baseboard.
Use a framing square to make the two perpendicular cuts.
For doorways, you may need to cut a notch for the door stop.
