    • At the ceremony, it is traditional for the bride and groom to walk under an "arch of sabers" created by two lines of honor guards standing opposite each other, with their swords in the air, touching each other.

    Significance

    • The walk under the arch is meant to symbolize the couple's passage into a new period of their life.

    Types

    • Army weddings can be conducted at the chaplain's chapel, wearing full uniform, on-base or off-base (in which case there are no specific rules attached to the ceremony).

    Considerations

    • Once the marriage is official, army personnel will need to obtain a dependent ID card for the spouse in order to take advantage of benefits, base exchange privileges and general access to the grounds.

    Benefits

    • All married army personnel receives a housing allowance ($525 per month) to rent a place to live off-base, plus numerous medical and living benefits for their families.
