How to Build a Chicken Coop - Make Sure Your Chickens Don"t Play With Their Food!

Before you make a chicken coop, you should first stop and think carefully about making sure that your chickens don't waste all the feed you've bought for them and make a complete mess...
for you to clean up! To do this you need to think about where you are going to put the chicken feeders.
I know it seems obvious but first of all you need to make sure that you are able to access the feeders because if you can't refill the chicken's food then they aren't going to be able to eat.
So make sure that the feeders are easily accessible for you, even if the chickens are in the coop at the time that you need to refill them.
Remember to consider that you may need to refill the feed after dark occasionally, so put them in a place that it will be easy to get to if you're carrying a torch or that is illuminated by an outdoor light.
The other main thing you've got to consider when you are thinking about where to put you're feeders are what height they need to be at.
Most new chicken owners put the feeders low down.
This is a mistake because chickens have the natural instinct to scratch, which can result in chicken feed and all over the coop floor and the chickens making a total mess of the home you built them! We want the chickens to be unable to knock the feed out of the feeder.
To do this you want to place the feed at the around about the height of the back of a chicken.
This means that it's well out of reach of their feet but that they can still eat the feed by stretching their necks.
