How to Replace a Light in GE Built-in Microwaves
- 1). Unplug the microwave before beginning repairs.
- 2). Look for two small, glass light covers on the bottom of the microwave. Find the Phillips screw located in the end of each cover. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws.
- 3). Let the covers swing down and open; it will not fall. Loosen the bulbs with your fingers, and replace them with new bulbs. Replace the screws.
- 1). Look for two Phillips bolts that go through the cabinet above the microwave. Have one person hold the microwave while another removes these bolts.
- 2). Unplug the microwave. Have two people support the microwave. Tilt the microwave out and lift up. The microwave will come free from the wall. Set it down in a clear area with room to work.
- 3). Remove all the Phillips screws in the outer shell of the microwave. The screws are located on the sides, rear, and top of the microwave shell. Place the screws in a bucket or cup to keep them together. Pull the shell free from the microwave, and set it to the side.
- 4). Find the large, black plastic panel which sits on the top of the exposed microwave. Remove the two or three 1/4 inch screws that hold the panel in place.
- 5). Lift the panel up to see the interior light bulb and its socket. Twist the bulb out, and replace it with a new one.
Reverse the above process to re-install the microwave.
