Composition : Each uncoated tablet contains : Mifepristone -200mg

This medication is a synthetic steroid, used to end an early pregnancy (within 7 weeks of the start of a woman's last menstrual period). It blocks the hormone needed for pregnancy to continue.

Mechanism of action :Mifepristone blocks the action of progesterone, which is needed to sustain a pregnancy. This results in:

• Changes in the uterine lining and detachment of the pregnancy


• Softening and opening of the cervix


• Increased uterine sensitivity to prostaglandin

Contraindications : Contraindicated in those with confirmed or suspected fertilized egg has implanted outside the uterus, chronic adrenal failure, concurrent long-term corticosteroid therapy, history of allergy to mifepristone, or other prostaglandin, bleeding disorders, liver or kidney impairment; pregnancy and lactation; undiagnosed uterus mass.

Precautions :People with the following should restrict from the consumption of this product.

• Suspicion about pregnancy,


• Chronic adrenal failure history,


• Hypersencitivity,


• Women over the age of 35 with cardiovascular diseases.

Drug interaction : Ketoconazole, itraconazole, erythromycin and grape fruit juice, inhibit mifepristone metabolism, Rifampicin,dextromethasone, and certain anticonvulsants (phenytoin,phenobarbital, carbamzepine) induce mifepristone metabolism.

Dosage : Oral- Termination of pregnancy (49 days or less duration)- Adult: 600 mg as a single dose followed 2 days later by 400 mcg of Mifepristone as single dose.This medication available in the form of tablet to take by mouth with or without food.

Advantages :High success rate (95%-98%)

Disadvantages :May take days and occasionally weeks for the abortion to complete.

• Efficacy decreases at later gestational gas.


• Light bleeding may continue for several weeks after the abortion is complete.


• Women may see blood clots and the product of conception.


• Sometimes requires at least two clinic visits.

Side effects :

• Genitourinary : Excessive vaginal bleeding, uterus infections, uterus bleeding,Urinary tract I nfection.


• Gastrointestinal : Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps.


• Central Nervous System : Dizziness, headache, anxiety, fatigue, unusual tiredness.


• Metabolic :Swelling in the extremities and decreased appetite.


• Musculoskeletal : Joint pain.


• Miscellaneous : Back pain , fever.
