How to Clean a Heat Pump Unit

    • 1). Turn off the heat pump unit and disconnect its power.

    • 2). Remove leaves and debris from around and on the unit.

    • 3). Clean the external casing with a bucket of water and a sponge.

    • 4). Direct a hose towards the inside area of the unit and hose it down with water. This removes dirt and debris that may have collected.

    • 5). Change or clean the heat pump filters once a month to ensure good air flow. Blocked airflow causes the compressor to work harder.

    • 6). Clean indoor coils if you can reach them with water and a clean sponge or rag.

    • 7). Restore power to the heat pump.

    • 8). Inspect registers to make sure air is flowing out of them.
