Pune, the cultural capital of Maharashtra, is always bustling with activity throughout the year. Pune Festival is held between August and September on the occasion of Ganesh Mahotsav. It is one of the biggest festivals of Pune, and lasts for ten days starting with the installation of Lord Ganesha's idols. Pune Festival concentrates more on the celebration of art, culture, dance, customs and traditions. It was started as a local event but has now moved on to become a big event that attracts plenty of visitors from different parts of the world. The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation, in association with the Union Government, actively promotes the festival abroad as a major tourist attraction of this city. Classical dance performances, music recitals, film, drama, automobile rallies and traditional sports are held as part of this festival. Maestros and stalwarts from various regions of India are invited for the performances. The citizens of Pune and also visitors from different countries enjoy the event thoroughly. Some of the recent additions to this event are the modern sports events, and opportunities to buy some exquisite textiles, handicrafts and mouth-watering cuisines.

Pune Biennale is an event that aims at promoting and showcasing creative talents from several disciplines of arts, design and architecture. It is more inclined towards making various forms of art like painting, sculpture, design, film, architecture, photography, environmental activities and performing arts easily accessible to the public. The theme of the inaugural Pune Biennale is €Celebrating Hills of Pune€. The hills in and around the city have given it a distinct geographical and cultural identity and Pune Biennale intends to revive this through different forms of art. This ten day annual event provides every opportunity to the young talent of this city and nearby regions to get hands-on experience in performing arts. The newly hosted €Yashwant International Film Festival€ was organized by Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan, jointly with Pune Film Foundation in remembrance of the great visionary of Maharahstra, a social reformist, practitioner of administration and great connoisseur of arts. The Festival was held at Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan's main auditorium and the Rangswar theatre at Nariman Point, Mumbai. The selected films of Pune International Film Festival were showcased at the 1st Yashwant International Film Festival as it is a major event associated with the Pune Film Foundation. In this festival, the organizers tried to showcase the changing parameters of cinema, new talent, innovations and experiments. The festival had screened some of the incredible movies of the region.
