How to Disassemble a Bissell Upright Vacuum to Replace a Fuse

    • 1). Make sure the power switch is in the "off" position and the vacuum is unplugged. Remove the extension pieces from the vacuum. Disconnect the hose from its connector on the vacuum, which is connected by one or two retention clips.

    • 2). Remove all filters and dirt collectors from the vacuum's housing. Wash out each container and filter in a sink. This should be done regularly to prevent clogs in the vacuum's filters.

    • 3). Determine how the vacuum's external housing is held together. This is the external plastic piece that protects and conceals the internal contents and electrical components inside the vacuum. In many cases, the outer housing consists of two large pieces that are held in place by Phillips-head screws or latches. Remove the screws and disengage the housing's retention clips according to your specific vacuum.

    • 4). Locate the fuse compartment near the power supply near the bottom of the vacuum. In some vacuums, this resembles a small breaker box. Pull the blown fuse out of its slot and throw the fuse away. Place the new fuse inside the vacant fuse slot. Reassemble the vacuum.
