Paris offers some of the most well-known tourist attractions in the world like the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Arc de Triomphe. Paris has even more attractions to offer, but these four are must-sees for any tourist. - The Louvre is one of the most famous museums in the world. It also holds some of the world's greatest treasures. The Louvre is identifiable by the old 17th-century building with the glass pyramid in front of it. This is really telling of how far the Louvre has come and its place as a must-see attraction in Paris. The Louvre holds such famous works as the "Mona Lisa" within its walls, as well as work from Michaelangelo, many Egyptian antiquities and famous sculptures such as "Venus de Milo" and "Winged Victory of Smothrace."

louvre.fr - This well-known historic piece of architecture was created for war victories in the time of Napoleon in the 1800s. The reliefs on at the east and west fronts of the arches depict departure, victories and returns of French soldiers. In 1921 the "Tomb of the Unknown Soldier" was placed at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe. It is an actual World War I soldier's grave, and every night a fire is lit in his memory.

arc-de-triomphe.monuments-nationaux.fr - The building of Notre Dame started in the 1100s and continued for more than 150 years. Go not just for the beautiful Gothic architecture but the history involved with the cathedral, as well. The "Crypte Archeologique" is a section of the cathedral where the ruins of 16th- to 18th-century homes are, and the "Gallery of Kings" has the heads of 21 kings of France, from Childebert I to Philippe Auguste. The heads were discovered in 1977 and since have been moved to the Musée de Cluny.

notredamedeparis.fr - Probably the most identifiable attraction in Paris, the Eiffel Tower has been standing tall since the late 1800s. The Eiffel Tower has two different platforms that can be reached by an elevator where you can obtain wonderful views of the city. On each platform is a restaurant; though very expensive, it could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This is a must-see in Paris.
